Stories & Memories
I always knew I could count on Jane to have an answer for me. She helped me with the accelerated students.
Whenever I have questions about advising, Jane has always been gracious and incredibly helpful!
What can I say or share about Jane. Jane is amazing and I am so proud of her.
Jane's ability to laugh at the funny and absurd made her the first person I would go to talk to in an SBA social event.
Early in my career (2002-2005...don't recall exactly when), I recall that we held an SBA social at Jane's home on the South Hill. I have fond memories of that evening and the Hession's amazing home and warm hospitality.
I met Jane's husband at the 2024 Sasquatch Soiree, and I was so surprised that he looks just like Jane! Indeed, happy couples do turn out to resemble each other, and I routinely share this story with my newlywed wife when we have the same thing for lunch, even though we are 2,500 miles apart.
I have so many! One favorite is a meeting we had during my freshman year when she called Fr. Siconolfi to ask why he had not invited me to join the Honor's Program. He said something to the effect that because I had not taken AP and Honors classes in high school, it didn't appear that I was prepared to be an Honors student. Jane pointed out that my tiny rural Montana high school did not offer AP and Honors classes, but that I had other credentials that suggested that I would be a good candidate. (I won't flex those now because that's lame, but she wasn't wrong!) In any case, she insisted that he grant me an interview to be considered for an unprecedented post-matriculation acceptance to the Honors program. I met with the guy and decided "NO THANK YOU!" but I was very grateful that she went to bat for me anyway. I cried when I found out I didn't get to keep her as my advisor (silly freshman!), but Boz turned out to be ok too! :)
I also have a fond memory of walking around Chicago together when were there for CJBE. We went into Bloomingdale's (a store I'd never set foot in!) where I bought a fancy spork, and she taught me about CMFM shoes!
I also really fondly remember SBA parties and Thanksgivings and even a couple of game watches at the Hession house. Those were lovely times. So special!
I remember a Thanksgiving pot luck at your house on 28th street that took place not long after I arrived at GU. It was such an amazing experience to join the SBA family and learn how much we all took care of each other. The stories that were shared by colleagues sitting in front of your fireplace are a most awesome memory.
Jane, I wish I could share your closet as your outfits are always so stylish and perfectly put together. I hope that as I grow older, I can be like you, not just on the outside, but also in keeping such a kind and caring heart for everyone.
When I first started advising students, I had many questions. You were like an encyclopedia—always patient and knowledgeable—and your guidance gave me great confidence. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done.
I will always have the memory of how you were able to get into the WSU game as a kid... pretty amazing story.

The Energy
Jane, I want to say, "Thank you" for always being inviting and the life of the party in Jepson. Your knowledge of Gonzaga is crazy amazing and I will miss our chats on family, travel, and life. You have impacted me in more ways words could not express. I will miss you, but know you will enjoy your grandbabies, travel, a bit of slower mornings but still staying active and brighten others' day. Thank you...I appreciate you. I'm very proud of you.
The Friend
Jane,
I'm going to miss seeing you at all the SBA events. You're always one of my favorite people to talk too. Thank you for teaching me how to get from Hemmingson to Jepson by cutting through the buildings when it snows. You're truly the best!

Dearest Janie,
I am SO happy for you that you have decided to move on to your next great adventure! How wonderful! We will all miss your very contagious laugh, your thoughtfulness, your style (future runway model!) and your constancy in keeping us focused on the mission and on student success. You are the embodiment of what cura personalis looks like, and thousands of Zags have found their home here because of your care and concern for them. All of us, and every one of your past advisees and students, are better off for having been accompanied in this life by you.
Thank you for everything, and best wishes in all the days ahead!!! I wish you joy, peace, and only good surprises!
Love,
