Dearest Janie,
I am SO happy for you that you have decided to move on to your next great adventure! How wonderful! We will all miss your very contagious laugh, your thoughtfulness, your style (future runway model!) and your constancy in keeping us focused on the mission and on student success. You
I always knew I could count on Jane to have an answer for me. She helped me with the accelerated students.
Whenever I have questions about advising, Jane has always been gracious and incredibly helpful!
What can I say or share about Jane. Jane is amazing and I am so proud of her.
Jane's ability to laugh at the funny and absurd made her the first person I would go to talk to in an SBA social event.
Early in my career (2002-2005...don't recall exactly when), I recall that we held an SBA social at Jane's home on the South Hill. I have fond memories of that evening and the Hession's amazing home and warm hospitality.
I met Jane's husband at the 2024 Sasquatch Soiree, and I was so surprised that he looks just like Jane! Indeed, happy couples do turn out to resemble each other, and I routinely share this story with my newlywed wife when we have the same thing for lunch, even though we are 2,500 miles apart.
I have so many! One favorite is a meeting we had during my freshman year when she called Fr. Siconolfi to ask why he had not invited me to join the Honor's Program. He said something to the effect that because I had not taken AP and Honors classes in high school, it didn't appear that I was prepared to be an Honors student. Jane pointed out that my tiny rural Montana high school did not offer AP and Honors classes, but that I had other credentials that suggested that I would be a good candidate. (I won't flex those now because that's lame, but she wasn't wrong!) In any case, she insisted that he grant me an interview to be considered for an unprecedented post-matriculation acceptance to the Honors program. I met with the guy and decided "NO THANK YOU!" but I was very grateful that she went to bat for me anyway. I cried when I found out I didn't get to keep her as my advisor (silly freshman!), but Boz turned out to be ok too! :)
I also have a fond memory of walking around Chicago together when were there for CJBE. We went into Bloomingdale's (a store I'd never set foot in!) where I bought a fancy spork, and she taught me about CMFM shoes!
I also really fondly remember SBA parties and Thanksgivings and even a couple of game watches at the Hession house. Those were lovely times. So special!
I remember a Thanksgiving pot luck at your house on 28th street that took place not long after I arrived at GU. It was such an amazing experience to join the SBA family and learn how much we all took care of each other. The stories that were shared by colleagues sitting in front of your fireplace are a most awesome memory.
Jane, I wish I could share your closet as your outfits are always so stylish and perfectly put together. I hope that as I grow older, I can be like you, not just on the outside, but also in keeping such a kind and caring heart for everyone.
When I first started advising students, I had many questions. You were like an encyclopedia—always patient and knowledgeable—and your guidance gave me great confidence. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done.
I will always have the memory of how you were able to get into the WSU game as a kid... pretty amazing story.
Wishing you a restful and happy retirement. Thank you for your immense and valuable help and support over two decades. Best wishes and god bless. Warm regards. Ashish
I loved attending the staff get togethers knowing you would be there. You put people at ease and that's a great trait to have.
Wow - where to start? Thank you, Jane. Your help in bringing all of us new advisors up to speed, supporting as we faced more complicated situations, and your dedication to helping our transfer students make the transition to Gonzaga made a real difference. We will miss you and wish you the best in the next steps of your journey!
Congrats, Jane! Wishing you all the very best in this exciting next chapter!
Thank you for always being so encouraging and bringing your life stories into the conversation. I'll miss my office neighbor!
Congratulations! I don't know what we'll do without you!
Dear Jane,
You have been a very special part of the gift my work in the business school has been and the joy it has brought me. I am humbled with gratitude. You have been the gold standard for the school, setting the bar for excellence, pulling always for the school. You’ve been an inspiration and role-model to me.
I will always be grateful. I am honored to call you colleague and friend and I want you to know you are deeply valued and cherished, by me.
Go play now!
With appreciation and affection,
Maureen
Jane, I want to say, "Thank you" for always being inviting and the life of the party in Jepson. Your knowledge of Gonzaga is crazy amazing and I will miss our chats on family, travel, and life. You have impacted me in more ways words could not express. I will miss you, but know you will enjoy your grandbabies, travel, a bit of slower mornings but still staying active and brighten others' day. Thank you...I appreciate you. I'm very proud of you.
Jane,
I'm going to miss seeing you at all the SBA events. You're always one of my favorite people to talk too. Thank you for teaching me how to get from Hemmingson to Jepson by cutting through the buildings when it snows. You're truly the best!
-Stephanie
Your energy, joy, and positive spirit is contagious! Thank you for being an incredible colleague!
You're my favorite, and I am going to miss seeing HONEY in the parking lot and miss hearing your insight and perspectives.
I know we already talked about this transition for you, but I wish you health and every happiness going forward. You've certainly earned it and will be greatly missed.
Jane, You will be sorely missed! I love your joyful attitude toward life, and I appreciate your care for our students and willingness to help others. Best wishes for a wonderful retirement! :)
Congratulations on your retirement, Jane! I will truly miss you.
Jane, thank you for being a wonderful friend and colleague. I hope you have a wonderful time in retirement and get to spend as much time with your family.
I have so enjoyed having you around this past year (+) that I have worked in the SBA. You will be missed and I hope you stop in to see us once in a while. Enjoy your retirement - you deserve the best!
Dearest Janie,
I am SO happy for you that you have decided to move on to your next great adventure! How wonderful! We will all miss your very contagious laugh, your thoughtfulness, your style (future runway model!) and your constancy in keeping us focused on the mission and on student success. You are the embodiment of what cura personalis looks like, and thousands of Zags have found their home here because of your care and concern for them. All of us, and every one of your past advisees and students, are better off for having been accompanied in this life by you.
Thank you for everything, and best wishes in all the days ahead!!! I wish you joy, peace, and only good surprises!
Love,
Peggy Sue
Jane - I don't know what we are going to do without you. The decades of information and experience that are leaving this building when you retire are irreplaceable. I wish you best of luck in your new endeavors and hope that you will still come back to visit us from time to time.
Jane, wish you the best in the next chapter of your life, traveling, visiting grand kids, watching games, taking care of mom, etc. and having lots of fun! I will miss you so much!!!
Thank you so much for your amazing institutional knowledge and so much advising our students! You will be missed! I have attended many advising sessions from you where you tried to teach faculty the ins and outs of our curriculum nuances. I have appreciated your warm smile.
Congratulations on your retirement! Wishing you endless weekends, slow mornings, and plenty of time for all the things you actually want to do! You will be sorely missed!!
Jane, you are the one who genuinely cares
Dear Jane, all our great results and achievements were thanks to your outstanding mentorship of our students (and, of course, of us as well). You will be deeply missed!
Jane, In many ways, you have been the heart of the School. You've poured yourself into this place and into the students who pass through it in a way that embodies what Gonzaga's Mission means. I genuinely cannot picture this school without you, but I'm comforted knowing you have shown us how to care for our students and one another. Wishing you every good thing.
Congratulations on your retirement! Your willingness to help others has meant so much to me, especially when I was starting out. Wishing you a joyful and fulfilling next chapter.
I remember meeting you for dinner during my campus visit. You were extremely nice, friendly, and down to earth. I have enjoyed working with you over the years, and every smile you gave over the years has not gone unnoticed. You were always willing to help me with any advising issues. I will miss you! Wishing you joy and all good things as you go on from here. May you find peace with God and joy in all you do!
Congratulations on your retirement, Jane! I’m a little nervous about your departure because you’re so incredibly helpful when it comes to GU knowledge and helping students with their plans! You always answered my MANY questions super quickly! Thank you for always being so kind, helpful, and supportive. You have been a wonderful colleague to work with. It was always a pleasure to talk to you whenever we got a chance. I hope you have the best time in your new chapter! 🎉 -Mariella
